Research and Markets : Tesco Plc - SWOT Framework Analysis

Friday, June 6th, 2008 | Online Business with No Comments »

SWOT Analysis is a strategic planning tool used to evaluate the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats involved in a project or in a business venture. It involves specifying the objective of the business venture or project and identifying the internal and external factors that are favorable and unfavorable to achieving that objective.

The aim of any SWOT analysis is to identify the key internal and external factors that are important to achieving the objective. SWOT analysis groups key pieces of information into two main categories:

Internal factors - The strengths and weaknesses internal to the organization.

External factors - The opportunities and threats presented by the external environment.

The internal factors may be viewed as strengths or weaknesses depending upon their impact on the organizations objectives. What may represent strengths with respect to one objective may be weaknesses for another objective. The factors may include all of the 4Ps; as well as personnel, finance, manufacturing capabilities, and so on. The external factors may include macroeconomic matters, technological change, legislation, and socio-cultural changes, as well as changes in the marketplace or competitive position. The results are often presented in the form of a matrix.

SWOT analysis is just one method of categorization and has its own weaknesses. For example, it may tend to persuade companies to compile lists rather than think about what is really important in achieving objectives. It also presents the resulting lists uncritically and without clear prioritization so that, for example, weak opportunities may appear to balance strong threats.

iPhone Tips and Tricks

iphone

All of us folks who are lucky enough to already have an iPhone know how much fun they can be just to play around with. Playing with my iPhone a lot myself, I have discovered some cool tips and tricks that you may find useful.

1. If you tap once at the very top of the screen when you are on the internet, it will take you back to the top of the window rather than having to scroll all the way back up. A nice time saving feature.

2. If you set the font to the smallest size, you can read more in the internet window. An advantage of this is that when you want to click a link, you can pinch (expand) that area and the link will come up very large, making it much easier to click.

3. Rather than posting the full address of internet sites in bookmarks, you can post the equivalent RSS address instead into Apple’s RSS reader and save that as your bookmark. This way you can quickly see if there’s anything interesting on your favorite site rather than downloading the whole homepage.

4. If you are writing something and the iPhone flags a word as misspelled that you know is not misspelled, cancel the correction 3 times and the word will be put into the dictionary. If you write a lot, this feature is quite useful!

5. The magnifying glass is a nice iPhone tool when you are typing an email or any other text. If you tap once and hold, a magnifying glass will pop up showing you a zoomed in view of your words and cursor. You can now easily place the cursor wherever you want. This makes editing your writing very easy.

6. You can move icons around, but not on the home screen. You have to go to the ipod section. Go to iPod > More > Edit. Now you can drag your icons all around. This can also be done in the phone section.

7. To reset your iphone, hold down the right button and the “home” front button for about 6 seconds. To power it back on, push the top button. This is different than a regular shutdown, which can be done easily by holding the sleep/wake button for 6 seconds.

8. If you get a lot of spam e-mail or other unwanted e-mail, pay attention to this time saving feature. Add a link to Yahoo mail in Safari bookmarks. From there you can check ‘delete all’ to remove all unwanted e-mails. This is much easier than deleting hundreds of spam e-mails one at a time.

I hope you found these iphone tips helpful. If you have an iPhone and have been wondering how best to fill it up with music and movies, check out Top iPhone Downloads for the latest reviews of iPhone download sites.

Diabetes

Monday, June 2nd, 2008 | Uncategorized with No Comments »

Diabetes mellitus, commonly known as diabetes, is one of the most leading causes of death worldwide. According to an estimate, around 20.8 million people in the United States are suffering with diabetes.

Diabetes can be briefly explained as a metabolic syndrome where the human body is unable to absorb and utilize its main source of fuel even though the blood contains large amounts of glucose. This occurs when the body is unable to produce or properly use insulin, a hormone that is required to convert glucose into energy.

According to the World Health Organization, there are three different forms of diabetes that include Type 1, Type 2 and gestational diabetes. All these three forms of diabetes have different causes, different complications and occur in different types of population.

Different Types of Diabetes:

Type 1 Diabetes: This is an autoimmune disease that is characterized by the inability of the human body to produce insulin due to loss of insulin-producing beta cells of the islets of Langerhans in the pancreas. Also known as juvenile diabetes, this disease occurs primarily in children.

Type 2 Diabetes: This is a metabolic disorder that is characterized by the inability of body to produce insulin in adequate quantities or the failure of cells. Even conditions like reduced insulin sensitivity or insulin resistance are considered as Type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is the most common form that accounts for 90-95 percent of diabetic cases.

Gestational Diabetes: This disease is almost similar to Type 2 diabetes. However, it differs in the population distribution. Gestational diabetes primarily occurs in about 2 percent to 5 percent of all pregnant women. It usually disappears after delivery. Untreated gestational diabetes can be increasingly dangerous both for the fetus and the mother. In case of the fetus, it can result in complications that include macrosomia, congenital cardiac and central nervous system abnormalities, respiratory distress syndrome, hyperbilirubinemia, skeletal muscle malformation and even death.

There are also certain other types of diabetes that occur due to genetic mutations that lead to defective beta cell function or secretion of inactive insulin. Even damage to the pancreas as a result of an injury, diseases such as cystic fibrosis and chronic pancreatitis or usage of synthetic drugs can cause diabetes. Diabetes can also occur as a result of diseases that are associated with increased secretion of insulin-antagonistic hormones such as glucagon.

How to Maintenance Bike

Sunday, June 1st, 2008 | Otomotif with 1 Comment

Like all mechanical things, a bike has to be maintained and has to be kept in peek condition at all times. It’s a well known practice of taking a bike for a thorough maintenance checkup at a dealership. By regularly visiting the same dealership you know you won’t be scammed and your bike is assured excellent service. Hence the first tip is to find a servicing dealership you can rely on. Always fix an appointment with your mechanic and have him go over with you what needs to be done for the bike. With him giving you a checklist on your bike, you can keep these things in mind before each ride.

Most often a bike’s battery is the issue. You should know the basic ways of taking care of a motorcycle’s battery. Breakdowns often happen by and large in areas where you won’t find a servicing shop. Hence it’s important to keep your tools handy and ready with you at all times, especially on long distance journeys. Develop a habit of checking your bike before leaving for any destination. Adhering to a monthly or even a quarterly service check can prove beneficial someday.

Tires are another important reason why most bike’s breakdown. Keeping them well inflated, regularly checking the air pressure, keeping a close watch out for cuts and scrapes on the tire, replacing them sooner rather than later, makes a world of difference towards your bikes performance. A thorough checkup of the two break fluid reservoirs which flow to the front and back breaks should be done.

Make your bike fuel efficient. Ensuring that correct engine oil is used will add to the smooth performance of the bike. A thorough test for oil leakages should be done along with checking the oil levels each day before getting on the bike. While cleaning the surface of the bike, cover the ignition unit and silencer with plastic sheets so that they remain undamaged. Cleaning the bike helps maintain the surfaces finish.

The chain, the sprocket and the pinion are three essential features of the bike and if not well maintained, you may end up shelling out more money to have them replaced. Place a newspaper around the area surrounding the chain so as not to dirty the other areas. The chain should be well lubricated and spinning the back tire ensures the sprocket and pinion are also lubricated. This process is best done when the chain is still warm after a ride.

There are some people who manage to have shiny bikes all the time. Using a toothbrush in between spokes is also an effective method or you can even use a shoe buffing brush. Soapy water is effective when mixed with paraffin when washing the bike. While cleaning be careful with the internal wiring as they are prone to short circuits if not done correctly. Keep a look out for loose wiring, missing bolts, loose screws, leakages, battery corrosion and other nitty-gritty details. Thus ensuring happy riding. How

Warcraft - Make Gold With Auction House Secrets

Saturday, May 31st, 2008 | games with No Comments »

Everyone know that the secrets to world of warcraft gold farming is buy low and sell high right? After all every real life economy is built around this principle so why should WoW be any different right? Most of the techniques on how to make gold in wow today stem from years of information infused into the community from every wow gold guide out there. But is this the real secret to wealth about world of warcraft gold farming? Here are 3 mistakes most people make it comes to running an auction house alt.

1. They Use their Main Character to Farm, items, Mats etc. While this technique works, it makes the game boring, real fast. Why? Because it changes the way you play the game. All of a sudden the game becomes more about the auction alt, then your main character. Now you got your main running all over Azeroth feeding your lowbie alt with everything you can chuck at him. Your game now has shifted, it no longer is about raids, end game instances, it has become all about this lowbie auction alt. The next thing you know is a week or 2 later the game becomes utterly boring. It really should be about your alt feeding your main, freeing up his time so you can enjoy the game the way it’s supposed to be enjoyed.

2. Posting too Many Lots At Once. When you sitting on 10 different stacks of ghost mushrooms, you gain nothing by posting all these stacks up on the auction house at the same time. Not only do you take the chance of all of them not selling, which will cost you auction re-listing fees (eating your profits) but you kill demand. You make it seem like this stuff is way to easy to get, after all there is 10 different stacks of this same item from the same seller. It gets harder if you do this to get the price you want, or the price that this item deserves if you post too many lots up at once, stick to 3 or 4, no more.

3. Buying Blues and Greens for Re-sale. What? This is the backbone of the whole idea of buying low and selling high. When you see a green or blue item for a deal, you snatch it up and re-sell it for a profit. Yes, and No. But there’s a better way. Selling greens and blues for resale, only means you fell into the trap every wow gold guide told you.

To prove that all the secrets behind what you have been told about world of warcraft gold farming are false, I took up a challenge I call the 30 Day Speed Gold Run Challenge. The challenge is simple, see how much gold I can make in 30 days on a brand new server, WITHOUT any help from high levels characters and WITHOUT any skills, using only Lowbie Alts. How did I do?

Everyone playing Warcraft these days is looking around trying to figure out how to learn to get gold as cheaply as possible. In this article I am going to tell you about a way that I have found to get gold cheap that has worked for me.

The method entails using your professions to the max. For example you can mine and skin. The mining will help you find rocks and the skinning will help you skin animals. You quest doing this then afterwards go to the auction house and sell your gatherings. This is going to help you get gold because the higher levels don’t want to try to gather these things for themselves they would rather buy them at the auction. Grinding also helps you get gold cheap in Warcraft. But questing is such a better way to go about it. When you go a quest you will get gold after you complete it. If you are a higher level you will get more gold in the end. Sometimes your enemies will drop items so keep on the look for that and pick them up! Once again you can sell those items back at a house and make some gold!

After you make some gold use it to power level if you are a crafter. Crafters can make items that will sell and make them more money.

Tips and Trick Windows

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008 | Computer with No Comments »

There are a number of tricks and shortcuts that are fairly well known among people that have been using Windows a lot over the last 14 years of it’s existence. However, we tend to take it for granted that everyone knows these things, when in fact they don’t.

Some of these functions are documented in the Windows help files, but I’ve noticed (with our secretary and my colleagues, for example) that most people never read the help files. I suppose they are kinda boring…

So with out further ado, here are some turbo tips for Windows:

(If a key name is in bold, it means you HOLD IT DOWN while pressing the other keys)

1. Windows key (the one with the flying window on it) and E will open Windows explorer, instead of right clicking the My Computer Icon on the desktop and then clicking Explore. Very useful if your desktop is full of open windows and you wnat to get another explorer window open.

2. Ctrl B for making marked text bold

3. Ctrl C to copy marked text to the clipboard

4. Ctrl V to paste that text into a new document.

5. Ctrl A selects All; either all text in a document, or all files in Explorer.

6. Alt Prt Sc to copy the presently open window to the clipboard. You can then use Ctrl V to paste it, as a jpeg image, into a document, or a photo editing program.

7. Crtl Shift Esc will open Task manager, where you can see what processes are running, and stop them if they are misbehaving and won’t close. Task manager also gives you a graph which shows how hard your CPU and memory are working.

8. In Windows Explorer and in Outlook Express (and other programs) if you click on the column headings, it will sort the whole thing according to the alphabetic/numeric order of that column. Clicking it again will reverse sort it.

9. Clicking a word of text twice will highlight (ie mark) that word. Clicking the word three times in quick succession will select the whole sentence, line or paragraph. (Depending on your text editor)

10. In Windows Explorer, if you hold your Ctrl key down, you can click on numerous, random files and select them, even if they are not contiguous (For foreign readers, this means: one after the other)
